Au pair program
Duties and costs for the host family
The host family should consist out of minimum two family members who have enough financial income to support another “family member”. An au pair can also stay with a childless couple.
The au pair lives with the host family and must be registered on the same address as this family. The host family must also have a bedroom for the au pair (minimum 9 m²) with a window that can open and central heating. The bedroom must also have a bed, table, chair, computer (with internet), tv or radio. The au pair should also have her own bathroom, but in practice she can also share the second bathroom with the children. The family also has to pay for food and drinks for the au pair.
The host family must also provide the au pair with a bike and mobile phone (prepaid). The first phone card (50 euro) should be paid by the family, any card after that is to be paid by the au pair herself. This way you can always reach the au pair when needed.
Smiling Faces and the host family are responsible for requesting the correct visa forms (MVV/VVR) for the au pair and for registering the au pairs at the correct places. The family has to pay the costs of arranging these things. According to the Dutch legislation, the family is responsible for getting the au pair insurance during her period of stay. The host family also has to pay for her return ticket. Besides this, the family also has to arrange and pay for a Dutch course for the au pair.
